Receiving Text Messages from @OCCCparking
The Oklahoma City Community College Police Department wants to keep you informed about parking and traffic issues on our campus. The following document will describe how you can receive these messages via text message on their cell phone.
- Send the following text message to 40404 – follow OCCCparking.
- The following steps assume that you do not already have a Twitter account:
- You will get a text message back worded something like this: “Welcome to Twitter! Reply with SIGNUP to begin. Already on Twitter? Reply with your ‘USERNAME’ instead. (Std msg rates apply. Reply with HELP for more)”
- Key in SIGNUP and send the reply.
- You will then get this message: “Great! You just need a username. This is how you’ll be known on Twitter. Reply w/ the username you want to use. (max 15 characters, no spaces, like Tweetie113)”
- Key in the username you wish to use and send it in a reply.
- Assuming that the requested username has not been taken by someone else, you will get this message: “Got it! Hi there, (@username). Congrats, you are now on Twitter, your first Tweet was sent! Reply w/ TIPS to see what you can do with Twitter.”
- Followed by this message: “You’re now following OCCCparking. You will now see their Tweets on your phone. Send OFF OCCCparking anytime to stop receiving their Tweets.”
- The following steps assume that you have a Twitter account that you would like to use with your cell phone:
- You will get a text message back worded something like this: “Welcome to Twitter! Reply with SIGNUP to begin. Already on Twitter? Reply with your ‘USERNAME’ instead. (Std msg rates apply. Reply with HELP for more)”
- Key in your username and send the reply.
- You will then get this message: “Great! You just need a username. This is how you’ll be known on Twitter. Reply w/ the username you want to use. (max 15 characters, no spaces, like Tweetie113)”
- Key in the username you wish to use and send it in a reply.

- Followed by this message: “You’re now following OCCCparking. You will now see their Tweets on your phone. Send OFF OCCCparking anytime to stop receiving their Tweets.”
- If you wish to stop receiving text messages from OCCCparking:
- Send the following text message, once again, to 40404 – OFF OCCCparking
- You should receive a message similar to this: “Receiving tweets via SMS from OCCCparking are now off. To turn them back on send ‘on OCCCparking’”
