Class FAQs

Will all classes that were previously scheduled on campus be moved online?

Most of our lecture-based courses will be moved to an online format, but some hands-on courses, simulations, and labs will continue to have a face-to-face component. Your instructor will contact you with specific information about your course.

 

Will labs be online?

Some labs will be online, but others will continue to be on campus. Programs will offer hybrid courses with a mix of in-person activities for hands-on work and online for portions of the course materials. Instructors will be reaching out to all their students with details.

 

Do students have to move their classes to online, or has the change already occurred for students?

Most courses will automatically become online courses, but we are not changing your section numbers or moving you to a different class. This means you are set to go. We will contact you with any other instructions needed for the online transition.

 

Are the online courses in 8-week formats?

Yes, online courses will still be offered for the same length of time for which they were previously scheduled. We have moved most of our courses to an 8-week format. Students will take fewer courses than in a 16-week semester. This change actually benefits students more in the age of COVID-19 because it allows students to end earlier or start classes later, depending on their needs

 

How will online classes allow me to work with hands-on tools and materials needed for my classes?

Some hands-on courses will still have in-person activities. Also, the College will remain open so that students can use labs and resources.

What options are available to me if I do not want to do an online class?

While most lectures will take place online, the College will be available to students who want to use computers, tutoring services, labs, resources, and tools on campus. Also, staff and faculty will be available to meet with students in person.

Will tuition change with the online transition?

We are taking steps to help you through the process. Here are just a few examples:

  • Some hands-on courses will continue to have on-campus instruction, which may include labs, simulations, and other activities associated with classes that have hands-on elements.
  • Our student lab services will be open both on campus and remotely and include math, writing, computer, and other tutoring-based labs.
  • Support services, such as advising, counseling, etc., will continue to operate both in person and remotely.
  • Your faculty will be available to you on campus and remotely. If you are having a hard time understanding a concept, you will have the ability to visit with them in a way that suits you best. We are essentially doubling the resources available to you so that we can meet your individualized needs.

 

How do students log in for online classes?

Online classes will be delivered via our learning management system, Moodle. Moodle can be accessed at online.occc.edu, and students will log in with their OCCC user name and password. Your instructor will reach out to you with additional information about how to access all materials for your courses.
