The Oklahoma City Community College Anesthesia Technology Program prepares graduates for eligibility to sit for the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) National Certification Examination. As an integral member of the anesthesia care team, certified anesthesia technologists focus on fundamental and advanced clinical procedures that assist licensed anesthesia providers in safe and efficient patient care. Anesthesia Technologists are trained to anticipate the patient’s and the provider’s needs as determined by the surgical requirements, procedure, or circumstance.
The Oklahoma City Community College Anesthesia Technology Program graduates are prepared to work in various clinical settings, including hospital operating rooms, interventional and diagnostic radiology, labor and delivery suites, intensive care units, emergency rooms, outpatient procedure suites, and ambulatory surgery centers.
Certified Anesthesia Technologists are proficient in all anesthesia procedures, including the acquisition, preparation, operation, and application of all equipment and supplies required to deliver anesthesia care. The Certified Anesthesia Technologist possesses cognitive abilities involving the knowledge of anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and principles of anesthesia technology. In addition, the Certified Anesthesia Technologist demonstrates the psychomotor skills necessary to assist the anesthesia provider in the full spectrum of anesthesia care. Certified Anesthesia Technologists demonstrate independent judgment as required for rapid response to quickly changing circumstances in the patient care environment. The Certified Anesthesia Technologist exhibits professionalism in all patient and staff interactions.
Theory content is delivered online, with skills lab and simulations occurring on campus. Students rotate through area healthcare facilities gaining necessary clinical experience.
