Financial Aid File Completion and Review Process
File Completion and Review Process
Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the initial stage in the process of applying for student financial assistance. If additional documentation is required to clarify and/or verify the information you have provided on your FAFSA, you will be notified through your OCCC email account.
The submission of required documents to the Financial Aid Office is the second stage.
Applicants should submit all requested documents to the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible to ensure the process continues in a timely manner. Please take advantage of online forms to submit some of your requested documents.
A file will not move to the review stage until all initial documents are in and complete.
Review is the process whereby a Financial Aid Advisor reviews all completed files for accuracy and for any conflicting data which must be clarified as required by federal regulation.
Once all requested materials have been received, the file is complete and it is reviewed by a Financial Aid Advisor. During the review process, the Advisor may request additional documents to clarify questions which arise during review.
Corrections which must be made through the federal system will normally be sent through Electronic Data Exchange (EDE). Corrected data will be retrieved on a regular basis. A copy of the accurate report will be provided to the applicant by the federal processing system and will be mailed to the address on file with the federal system.
When all required information is on file and correct, the Financial Aid Advisor will clear the applicant for awarding of financial assistance.
