Soweto Gospel Choir
Tuesday, April 1, 2014, 7:00 P.M.
"The energy of the Soweto Gospel Choir is truly amazing, their exuberance infectious ... a celebration of the supreme joy of music, life, and love, and the beauty of human voices, movement and collaboration." ~ Australian Stage
The Soweto Gospel Choir was formed in 2002 to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. This multi-Grammy and Emmy award-winning 52-strong choir, under the direction of Beverly Bryer, draws on the best talent from the many churches in and around Soweto, and is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world.
Since their beginning, the group has won numerous awards and performed all over the world for individuals such as Nelson Mandela, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Oprah Winfrey and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Performing in eight different languages, including English, Xhosa, Zulu and Sotho, the Soweto Gospel Choir’s earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, a capella and charismatic performances combine to uplift the soul and celebrate the spirit of South Africa.
