Rhonda Vincent and The Rage
Friday, January 22, 2016, 7:30 P.M.
OCCC Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater
Presented By
Known worldwide as the “Queen of Bluegrass,” Rhonda Vincent has been a musician from her childhood. Since the publication of the Wall Street Journal article fourteen years ago that bestowed Rhonda’s royal title, she has become one of the most recognized and honored musicians in the bluegrass genre.
Says Vincent of her title, “That is an incredible honor….I am just beginning to realize that we are influencing the young musicians we meet or have inspired others to start playing music and to start singing. I take this very seriously and hope that we always represent our wonderful state of Missouri with dignity and class.”
Vincent has performed both live and in music videos with various country and bluegrass legends—including country music great, Dolly Parton—and has graced the stage of the iconic Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions.
"Good music reaches out and touches you. Great music grabs you and doesn’t let go. And this, friends, is great music." - BluegrassToday.com
Pre-Concert Talk: Rodger Harris will present an educational talk on January 22 prior to the performance of Rhonda Vincent and The Rage. The talk is entitled "The High Lonesome Sooner Sound, A Very Brief History of Oklahoma Bluegrass Music" and will take place from 6:00 P.M.-6:45 P.M. in the Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater.
The presentation will include a brief tracing of music from the "Old Countries" of Celtic origins through Appalachia and into Oklahoma. The term "bluegrass" can be traced to the late 1940s and it arrived in Oklahoma only a few years later.
Mr. Harris retired from the Oklahoma History Center in 2011 where he directed Folklife programs and research, conducting more than 1,100 interviews on a wide range of topics. In addition, he is a storyteller, fiddle player and author of numerous books about Oklahoma music and history.
