GASH/VOIGT Dance Theater of St. Louis, founded in 1985, is one of the few all women's contemporary dance theater companies in the United States, and perhaps the only one in the Midwest. Their highly acclaimed alloriginal performance pieces include collaboration with internationally and nationally renowned visual artists, composers, directors, writers and videographers. Under the artistic direction of Susan Gash, with associate artistic direction by Beckah Voigt, the company develops their work around social and political issues as viewed through the human condition, particularly in regard to women. In 1996 and 1997, Gash/Voigt was voted St. Louis' Best Local Dance Company.
