CALICO WINDS initially formed to explore the wind quintet literature and the luncheon casserole), soon discovering similar visions for transforming the stodgy image of the wind quintet into a more eclectic one. They chose the word "Calico" to invoke the image of the many colors and textures offered by the sounds of the wind quintet. In 1998 the ensemble released their first compact disc recording, All In One, to critical acclaim. The Los Angeles Times noted, "This fine quintet proceeds from Bach to Zappa, through a broad swath of composers, projecting solid musical values all the way. Calico Winds has crossed all the style lines and gotten away with it." They also enjoy creating programs which bring to audiences both the serious concert experience and the light-hearted side of music. Visit their website.
