Ben Vereen – actor, dancer, singer. Few entertainers today are as accomplished or versatile as this acclaimed performer. His legendary performances transcend time and have been woven into the fabric of this country’s artistic legacy. His first love and passion is and always will be the stage. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Jesus Christ Superstar in 1972, won a Tony for his appearance in Pippin in 1973 and appeared in the Broadway musical Wicked as the Wizard of Oz in 2005. Vereen has also performed in one-man shows and actively lectures on black history and inspirational topics. He has starred in numerous television programs, and received an Emmy nomination in 1977 for his role of Chicken George in Alex Haley’s landmark TV miniseries Roots. At 14, Vereen enrolled at the Manhattan High School of Performing Arts, where he studied under world-renowned choreographers Martha Graham, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins.
Ben Vereen is currently touring his one-man show, Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen, dazzling audiences from Hawaii, throughout the United States, Europe and Abu Dhabi. Ben’s show is a unique blend of artistry, combining a tribute to Broadway, Frank Sinatra and a very special tribute to Sammy Davis Jr., featuring hit songs such as “Defying Gravity,” “Mr. Bojangles,” “For Good” from Wicked and “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries.” His performances are filled with song and dance, stories of his life, a great deal of humor and always, multiple standing ovations!
