Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Cultural Programs is proud to announce its 2017-2018 Performing Arts Series (PAS) lineup for the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater. From folk music to classic rock to modern dance to popular hit music, there is a show for everyone.
Single tickets for all shows in the series went on sale Aug. 1 with single ticket prices ranging from $15-$49. Season ticket packages are also available for patrons who are interested in multiple shows.
The series kicks off with the Annie Moses Band and their program entitled “American Rhapsody†Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. A captivating blend of folk and classical, the Annie Moses Band is a talented family of songwriters, singers and musicians, combining technical skill with exhilarating showmanship. The Annie Moses Band has a sound all their own. They call it chamber pop, a spicy blend of classical, jazz, and pop mixed with some good old-fashioned country. They play the best of beloved genres in a style that unifies audiences, young and old.
“Noonatics†are eager to hear Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. Achieving international fame as the lead singer of Herman’s Hermits at just 15 years old, Peter Noone is a multitalented entertainer, who has been delighting audiences nearly all his life. Peter Noone and the legendary British pop band will be playing favorites such as “I’m Into Something Good†and “Mrs. Brown You Have a Lovely Daughter.â€
The Hot Club of San Francisco presents “Cinema Vivant†Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. The performance delivers an evening of vintage silent films accompanied by live Gypsy swing, often called Gypsy jazz. To hear this ensemble is to be carried back to the 1930s and the small jazz clubs of Paris.
Audiences can march to the beat of their own drum at the Do You Speak Djembé? performance Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. Each audience member receives their own drum and becomes a part of the act, creating the largest djembé band in America. Team up with world-class Western and African musicians for a memorable experience for the whole family.
Looking to entice your senses? Cirque Éloize Saloon combines the art of music, theater and acrobatics to evoke emotion during their performance Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. The Wild Wild West comes alive with Cirque Éloize’s newest creation “Saloon ,†a mythical world where theatre and circus collide for 80 minutes of non-stop live folk music combined with strength, agility and original choreography. Fun for the entire family!
Puff the Magic Dragon might not be able to make it, but Peter Yarrow will. Lonesome Traveler: The Concert featuring Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul and Mary performs Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. With their show entitled “Roots of American Folk Music,†Lonesome Traveler celebrates the likes of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, James Taylor and others, depicting the story of folk music from the 1920s to the ’60s and beyond within the context of an ever-changing America.
For the dance enthusiasts, RIOULT Dance NY will perform Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. Rioult is an established name in modern dance with a reputation for presenting the sensual, articulate and exquisitely musical works of Pascal Rioult.
Care to travel back in time? Swedish tribute band ABBA MANIA recreates one of the world’s finest pop band’s performances Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. There will be no shortage of dancing or glitter.
