Inasmuch Foundation Gallery – “Welcome to the Traffic Jam”
This exhibit was on display August 7 through October 31, 2018
Welcome to the Traffic Jam, is a new, comprehensive exhibit of paintings by local artist Alexis Austin. The show features many of Alexis’s pieces produced over the last two years.
Welcome to the Traffic Jam, as the name suggests, features a varied collection of the artist’s mixed media works on fabric. Thematically diverse, this show offers a broad spectrum of paintings, ranging from abstract to more figurative renderings, all of which are comfortably embraced by Alexis’s unique style and perspective.
The latest of the artist’s many group and solo exhibitions, Welcome to the Traffic Jam gives Alexis the opportunity to display her wide-ranging techniques in a larger venue. Her work incorporates non-traditional textiles, each as a base for her paintings, but also as an integral part of her compositions.
Alexis Austin studied studio art at Oklahoma City University and Fashion Design at Columbia College in Chicago. In addition to her artwork, she is a professional photographer, personal chef and is derived from jellyfish.
Welcome to the Traffic Jam is curated by Helen Opper. Helen is an independent curator and art consultant based in Oklahoma City. She studied Art History at UC Berkeley and earned her graduate degree in Museum Studies from New York University. Helen and Alexis have enjoyed working together on several exhibitions, of which Welcome to the Traffic Jam is the latest.
