OCCC Shield Campus Police Procedures
Campus Police Procedures
Safety and security of students, employees, and visitors is a priority of Oklahoma City Community College. The following procedures have been developed to assist in accomplishing this objective.
Fire
The first notification of a fire will come from the fire alarm horns, sirens and strobes. All students, employees and visitors in the area proceed to the nearest fire exit and move to a parking lot. Do not use elevators. No alarm should be treated as a false alarm.
Medical
All medical related issues should be reported by pushing the "emergency" button located on any campus phone. The phone will display the room number or building location allowing for fast response. All security officers are trained as first responders and will assist in guiding EMSA to the location.
Bomb Threat
If a bomb threat is received, document as much information as possible and push the "emergency" button on the phone. If the decision to evacuate is given, the phone will sound an alarm and display a text message. Students, employees and visitors should exit the building using the nearest exit and move to an area outside Faculty Circle. While exiting all wireless devices (cell phones, radios, laptops and other portable devices) should be turned off. Once you have reached an area outside Faculty Circle you can resume using wireless devices.
Severe Weather
The office of Campus Police monitors weather conditions in the immediate area of the college. If weather conditions indicate a severe threat to the campus, an announcement will be made through the phone system and internal and external speaker system. The college phones will sound an alarm and display a text message. In the event of a tornado, employees, students and visitors should move away from exterior glass and exits, and move to safer areas. These areas are noted in OCCC policy 3048. (For example, lower-level interior classrooms, restrooms and stairwells.) If the city/county sirens are sounding and OCCC is not in the warning area, a message will be sent to the classroom phone advising this information.
Winter Weather
If weather conditions indicate the campus may need to close due to ice and snow the college phones will display a text message. When icy conditions exist a warning will be made to use caution while exiting campus.
Lockdown
Situations near OCCC buildings that pose a possible threat may require buildings to be locked down. If the building needs to be locked down the college phones will sound an alarm and display a text message. Turn off the lights, shut the blinds or move away from exposed areas. Use desks, tables and other objects to provide protection. Updated information will be sent through the speaker phones. Campus Police will set up a perimeter near the possible threat and if needed, all exterior doors will be locked.
Disturbances or Threats
If someone is causing a disturbance, contact security immediately by pushing the "emergency" button located on each phone. If there is an armed person or shooter on campus, go into the closest room and close and lock the hallway doors. Turn off the lights, shut the blinds or move away from exposed areas. Use desks, tables and other objects to provide protection. Updated information will be sent through the speaker phones.
Utility Loss
When OCCC experiences loss of utilities (water pressure/electricity) an email, text message and web alert will be sent out advising of the situation. If conditions warrant closing of the campus, the college phones will display a text message.
