OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (August 14, 2023) —
Oklahoma City Community College has awarded more than 12,000 micro-credentials to students and currently leads the state in number of micro-credential programs.
“Micro-credentials are a way for OCCC to showcase the progress our students are making as they work toward their certificate or degree. Each micro-credential highlights specific skills learned by our students which are needed in the workforce,” said Mickey Jack, OCCC director of Curriculum and Assessment. “This acknowledgement of our students’ skillsets through awarding micro-credentials helps them find gainful employment and helps fill the immediate workforce needs of our industry partners.”
OCCC received three grants from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education which are being used in part to provide micro-credential scholarship opportunities. The OSRHE’s micro-credential initiative, UpskillOK, is geared toward workforce development.
“OCCC is proud to empower our students for success in the workforce and in their continued academic pursuits through the many flexible, affordable and marketable micro-credential opportunities that we provide. Our micro-credentials give students a competitive edge in the job market, as they provide employers with documentation of the knowledge and skills proficiencies that students have acquired through our programs,” said Dr. Juanita Ortiz, OCCC vice president of Academic Affairs. “OCCC is excited about the doors that our micro-credentials will open for our students.”
