OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (Feb. 19, 2024) – Tickets are on sale for “Joshua Henry – Get Up, Stand Up!” at the Oklahoma City Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
A reception will be held before the show from 6:30-7:15 p.m. to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the VPAC, a 1,049-seat, state-of-the-art theater space on the Oklahoma City Community College campus.
Joshua Henry is a Grammy Award winner and triple Tony nominee, acclaimed for his roles as Aaron Burr in “Hamilton,” alongside Audra McDonald in “Shuffle Along,” and in his Tony-nominated performance as Billy Bigelow in the revival of “Carousel.”
“Get Up, Stand Up!” showcases Henry’s incredible range as he flows seamlessly from the classic soul of Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke to Broadway gems by Stephen Sondheim and Rodgers & Hammerstein, and original selections from his own solo album.
“I want audiences to experience a couple of things when I perform. I want them to celebrate, and I want them to heal. I want to make that my trademark. I’d love it if those two words could be synonymous with Joshua Henry the artist,” said Henry. “So, whether it’s music from the 10 Broadway shows I’ve done or music I’ve written straight from the heart, this performance will show every side of me.”
Presented by Oklahoma City Community College and the E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation, this one-night-only event is a testament to the power of music and performance to uplift and inspire. Joshua Henry’s “Get Up, Stand Up!” is not just a concert; it’s an experience that transcends genre, showcasing the breadth and depth of one of today’s most exciting artists.
This project is supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, which receives support from the State of Oklahoma and the National Endowment for the Arts.
