OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (September 22, 2023) –
Oklahoma City Community College’s inaugural Rosewood Gala, presented by Herman and LaDonna Meinders, was held Sept. 21 at the OCCC Visual and Performing Arts Center.
More than 300 attended the black-tie dinner and program, which included entertainment from comedian and vocalist Jammin Jay Lamont and the Grammy Award-winning a cappella group Take 6. KFOR news anchor Ali Meyer served as an event emcee.
Proceeds from the event will support the initiatives of the Foundation for Oklahoma City Community College.
“The inaugural Rosewood Gala was a celebration of excellence in education and the impact it has on the future of our city,” said Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, president of OCCC. “Our community grows and prospers when we deliver promising and well-prepared graduates into our dynamic economy. Tonight’s event was a chance to recognize special members of the community who have helped support OCCC’s mission.”
There were 18 recipients of 2023 Rosewood Awards. Representative Jon Echols and Commissioner Brian Maughan received a Distinguished Award for Leadership, and the Sarkeys Foundation received a Community Champion Award. Outstanding Commitment Awards were presented to Judy Archer, Dr. Christie Burgin, Tamara Carter, Myra Decker, Dr. Mari Fagin, Richard Goranson, Marie Elise Howard, Steven Kamm, Ed Krei, Velma McLaurin-Bell, Gene Rainbolt, Randy Thurman and Jack Turner. Herman and LaDonna Meinders were honored with the Champion Award.
“The Foundation at Oklahoma City Community College assists students by funding scholarships, student assistance programs, and specific academic programs,” said Lesley Martin, executive director of the OCCC Foundation. “The Rosewood Gala’s inaugural event has been incredibly well-received by the community. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and all of those who supported this event and continue to support OCCC with their generosity.”

Oklahoma City Community College’s Rosewood Gala will be an annual tradition. Next year’s event is planned for September 2024.
