OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Aug. 24, 2022) — Oklahoma City Community College is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by welcoming Grammy Award winning musician José Feliciano. Feliciano’s show is Sept. 22 and is part of OCCC’s Performing Arts Series, which is in it’s 25th year. His performance also falls during a week-long 50th anniversary celebration for OCCC.

“We are thrilled to have José Feliciano at our campus during such a special time,” said OCCC President Dr. Mautra Staley Jones. “OCCC plays a pivotal role in keeping arts and cultural events alive in our community, and we’re especially honored to welcome José Feliciano during OCCC’s 50th anniversary.”

Feliciano has influenced popular music for more than two generations, and he is recognized as the first Latin artist to cross over into the English music market. Feliciano has recorded nearly 70 albums, been awarded more than 45 Gold and Platinum Records and has won nine Grammy Awards.

“José Feliciano has performed all over the globe. Many of his songs are recognizable from the first note,” said Lemuel Bardeguez, OCCC’s Director of Cultural Programs. “We’re delighted to welcome him during the 25th year of our Performing Arts Series.”

Three songs are milestones for Feliciano. “Light My Fire” topped the charts globally in 1968. “Che Sarà” was Feliciano’s 1971 San Remo Music Festival entry, and it became a smash hit throughout Europe, Asia and South America. “Feliz Navidad” is now a tradition worldwide and was named one of the 25 Greatest Holiday Songs of the Century by ASCAP.
