Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) continues to fill the gap with training for technicians in the alternative fuels industry. OCCC’s Professional Development Institute (PDI) now offers both a compressed natural gas (CNG) Compressor Level 1- Operator course and a Compressor Level 2-Mechanic certification.
The Compressor Level 1- Operator course is designed for professionals performing routine maintenance on CNG fill stations as stipulated by manufacturer guidelines. The three-day class is comprised of two days of training and one day of assessment and examination.
The Compressor Level 2-Mechanic certification is offered to mechanics with at least three years of industry experience and will ensure training to perform all duties necessary to install, repair, replace, service, inspect, modify and maintain a fill station. The certification is one day of assessment and examination.
The Oklahoma Department of Labor (ODOL) issues certifications to technicians who work on alternative fueled vehicles and refueling/recharging infrastructure after they have met training and experience requirements, demonstrated a set of skills, and passed a written exam. OCCC’s PDI works closely with the ODOL to specifically design courses that will best prepare technicians for this process.
All courses will be held at the Professional Development Institute which is located at 7124 I-35 Service Road, Oklahoma City, OK, 73149. For more information or to register, contact PDI Director John Claybon at (405) 682-7855 or jclaybon@occc.edu.
