The group of former Washington workers who put the mock in democracy will soon be performing at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC). OCCC and KGOU radio present The Capitol Steps’ “What to Expect When You’re Electing” July 16, 2016, at 8 p.m. at the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater.
Over 30 years ago, The Capitol Steps formed in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom to not quit their day jobs. Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.
In their return to OCCC, The Capitol Steps’ “What to Expect When You’re Electing” performance highlights the 2016 campaign trail with Donald Trump singing a rock song, Bernie Sanders a show tune, Hillary Clinton giving her own stand-up comedy routine, and much more. With such an unprecedented election year as this one, there is no doubt audience members will find the satire-rich performance worth every dime.
