Dr. Smith has been a full-time professor of political science at Oklahoma City Community College since 2004. He began his teaching career in 2002 as a lecturer professor and adjunct professor of political science at the University of Central Oklahoma where he taught until 2019. His education background is as follows: Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and a M.Ed. in Education, University of Oklahoma; M.A. and B.A. in Political Science, University of Central Oklahoma; and an A.A. in Political Science, Oklahoma City Community College.
Dr. Smith has also received various local and national awards for teaching that include: Outstanding Educator, Jeanine Rainbolt College of Education, University of Oklahoma; President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, Oklahoma City Community College; Award for Teaching, American Association of University Professors, University of Central Oklahoma Chapter; Dignitary Award for Education in Business Development, Teacher’s Appreciation Foundation; Great Ideas for Teaching (G.I.F.T.) Award, Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges.
Dr. Smith is also the Founder/CEO of a multi-million-dollar real estate business that he started in 2015. His real estate business has given thousands of dollars back into the community in the form of scholarships, school supplies, clothes, food, and so much more. His real estate business was the first corporate sponsor to donate 16,000 meals to the food pantry at Oklahoma City Community College. In December of 2023, he was awarded the “President’s Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Office of the President of the U.S. and signed by Joe Biden for his 25 years of community service.
Dr. Smith is a highly sought-after motivational and keynote speaker who travels across the U.S., addressing a wide range of diverse audiences in both business and academic settings. Drawing from his own experiences of overcoming the hardships of growing up in poverty and living in some of the most violent neighborhoods, surrounded by gangs, drugs, and crime, he shares his personal journey to inspire, motivate, and empower others to overcome their own challenges and achieve their fullest potential.
Dr. Smith is deeply passionate about teaching and is committed to helping students make informed decisions while reaching their full potential. His dedication goes beyond the classroom, fostering a supportive environment where students feel like part of a close-knit community and family. This unique approach not only inspires students to excel academically but also shapes them into some of the brightest and most successful individuals on campus, who continue to thrive at the university level and beyond.
