OCCC named Subaru-U partner, producing even more skilled technicians for the industry

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is happy to announce its designation as a Subaru-U institution, providing two levels of technician training that begin a student’s journey to become a Subaru-certified technician.

Subaru-U, short for Subaru University, is a partnership between Subaru of America, the retailer, and high performing National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF)/ Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) accredited secondary and post-secondary schools. By infusing Subaru's Web-Based Training (WBT) into OCCC’s existing curriculum, students have the ability to take most of the entry-level training that is required of all Subaru technicians.

Students at participating Subaru-U partner schools gain valuable knowledge of Subaru vehicle systems that better prepares them for employment in any one of approximately 600 Subaru retailers nationwide.

The OCCC partnership is particularly beneficial for the state of Oklahoma. There are three Subaru dealers in the state in need of qualified technicians. OCCC is one of only two Subaru-U institutions in the state, and the only one in the Oklahoma City metro area.

“This partnership is a win-win for OCCC and our students,” says Professor of Automotive Technology Brad Walker. “Since Subaru’s requirements are already included in our Automotive Technology Internship Program courses, this partnership is possible at no additional costs to the college and gives our students another option in their career path.”

OCCC enrolls more than 20,000 students annually. The college is currently the largest adult basic education provider in the state. OCCC offers a full range of associate degree programs that prepare students to transfer to baccalaureate institutions while other degree and certificate programs prepare students for immediate employment. At OCCC, students receive a quality education with small class sizes, dedicated professors and leadership opportunities. Students can choose from more than 60 major fields of study and participate in any of the 40+ clubs and organizations. For more information about OCCC, visit www.occc.edu.
