A safe work environment yields an efficient production level and positive atmosphere among employees. Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is a host site for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), Region VI Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Training Institute Education Center, and will be offering three courses at the college’s Professional Development Institute (PDI) this spring.
The courses provided are OSHA-authorized and provide knowledge and skills needed to create a safe workplace for employees and to maintain voluntary compliance with OSHA regulations.
The first course offered will be the Recordkeeping Rules Seminar (OSHA 7845) course designed to assist employers in identifying and fulfilling their responsibilities for posting certain records, maintaining records of illnesses and injuries and reporting specific cases to OSHA. Participants who successfully complete this course will be able to identify OSHA requirements and complete OSHA forms 300, 300A and 301. The course will be held Thursday, Feb. 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and costs $325.
In March, a three-day Scaffolding Safety (PRT 123) course will be available. Course participants will acquire an excellent understanding and application of OSHA Standards 1926.450-454, and become familiar with and learn how to analyze the letters of interpretation. Comprehensive content will be included to provide a broad awareness of inspection requirements, as well as identifying and minimizing hazards associated with scaffolds. The course will be held Tuesday, Mar. 8 through Thursday, Mar. 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and costs $795.
The final course offered will be Managing Excavation Hazards (OSHA 7410) on Thursday, Apr. 7 and costs $295. Students will learn about the role and responsibility of the employer to assign a competent person to the excavation site and arm them with the knowledge to perform the work properly.
