Kurt Leichter was many things throughout his life. He was a son, husband, father, businessman, friend and a survivor and he developed the best aspects from each portion of his life journey. He was an avid photographer and this Marking of Time Retrospect highlights some of that journey through photography. His good friend, Dr. Robert Smith mentored Kurt into the wonderful and beautiful world of photography. They spent time traveling throughout the United States capturing the place Kurt proudly called home. Becoming a seasoned photographer Kurt travelled Europe and beyond taking photographs for several travel magazines and providing photos for many of Cathy Leichter’s travel articles.
In 1995, Kurt was privileged to be the first amateur photographer to be invited for a one-man show at the International Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He was later invited to show in Vienna, Austria at an exhibition designed for photographers who were Austrian born but forced to flee during the Nazi occupation. This exhibit at the Kunsthalle Wein in Museumquartier in Vienna traveled Austria and Europe for one year.
A philanthropist at heart, Kurt supported many endeavors through endowments and scholarships. He was honored to be on many boards but one he held dear was Habitat for Humanity. All proceeds from the sale of his photography will be donated in support of Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity and the Oklahoma City Community College Inasmuch Foundation Gallery.
