Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) celebrated the launch of its new Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station with a ribbon-cutting today.
Hosted in partnership with the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments, and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the ribbon-cutting was the college’s first ribbon-cutting event on its campus since the COVID-19 pandemic began almost two years ago. The gathering took place outside at the charging station itself over lunch, with food provided by OCCC’s Wheelhouse. OCCC faculty, staff, students and regents, and elected officials, were invited, in addition representatives and members from each of the major organizations involved.
The EV Charging Station is a publicly-accessible group of chargers, and was funded by grants from the Department of Environmental Quality and ACOG. Though the station opened in summer 2020, the pandemic made it difficult to commemorate it at the time.
“From all of us here at O Triple C, we’re really glad you’re all here today,” said OCCC Interim President Dr. Jeremy Thomas. “We hope you’ll come back and charge your electric cars here, maybe enroll your kids here, or even take classes here yourself. Be sure to go for a walk on our beautiful trails – and if you ever want company, I’ll join you. Whatever your reason, we’re just glad you’re here. You’re welcome back anytime.”
