Transitional Leadership Academy

Purpose

Assisting veterans currently enrolled in post-secondary education in the Oklahoma City Metro Service Area and those who have recently or are within six (6) months of separation with training and support in the following areas:

  • Transitioning to the Civilian Workforce
  • Leadership Development for the Civilian Workforce
  • Professional Communication Strategies
  • Personal Branding
  • Job Searching for Success
  • Writing Resumes and Cover Letters
  • One-On-One Mentoring with Corporate Leaders
  • Career exploration

Major components

Focus Group Activity

Focus groups are vital to the success of this program. Information gleaned from focus group meetings will help identify skill set gaps and barriers to employment that many veterans face. Focus group input will influence curriculum and ensure program participants receive substantive information that will positively impact their success in the job market. Veterans, civilian hiring managers, active duty personnel, Workforce Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma Workforce Development Board members are invited to participate in this activity.

Program Curriculum

Modules will be delivered in a classroom setting addressing appropriate material gathered from focus groups. College faculty and qualified personnel from grant partnerships will be recruited as presenters.

Community Advisory Board (CAD)

Primary membership of the advisory board will consist of area hiring managers, members from the Oklahoma Commerce Department, Veteran’s Affairs, Workforce Oklahoma, and the Central Oklahoma Workforce Development Board. CAD members are a conduit for the hiring and placement of veterans. CAD members are vital to the success and sustainability of this program as well.

Placement Activities

The TLA will host career fairs specifically targeting veterans for civilian employment.
