Counseling Services

The college experience provides many opportunities for personal growth. Not everyone makes it through the college experience without experiencing some obstacles along the way. While each person is unique, sometimes thoughts, feelings, emotions, or behaviors come up that cause problems in his/her life, or in the lives of loved ones.

The counseling aspect of Student Accessibility and Support was developed to provide a confidential process to assist students in gaining a greater understanding of self and relationships in order to benefit from education opportunities. The counselor will also provide referrals to community services and provide group opportunities to address a variety of resolution of issues that can deter student success.

Students may come to the counseling office for many different reasons. Some of the issues they find helpful to explore are:

  • depression
  • loneliness
  • anxiety
  • lack of self-confidence
  • eating problems
  • abuse issues
  • procrastination
  • family problems
  • interpersonal conflicts
  • relationship problems
  • cultural/ethnic concerns
  • achievement conflicts
  • concerns about their substance abuse
  • difficulties with concentration/attention
  • difficulties in managing anger
  • sleep disturbances
  • suicidal thoughts
