Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Interim President Dr. Jeremy Thomas has appointed Dr. Liz Largent to the role of Interim Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. Largent will oversee the day-to-day operations for the Division of Student Affairs, a role Interim President Thomas has held since 2018. Dr. Largent will serve in the Interim role through the college’s transitional period, and if it is determined that OCCC should permanently fill the VPSA position, the college will conduct a full search.
“For the past four months, I have served in three positions: Interim President, Provost and Vice President for Student Affairs, but as we transition back to in-person classes, it’s important that our students have someone in person who can be fully present and focused on their needs,” said Interim President Thomas. “Dr. Largent served in Student Affairs for many years and has a passion for student success. She will be able to step into the VPSA role and immediately make an impact on our students.”
Dr. Largent has served at OCCC since 2002 in previous roles including Director of Student Life, Dean of Student Development, and Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services, and currently serves as Professor of Leadership and Critical Thinking. She received a Graduate Certificate in Composition Studies (Indiana University, 2018), a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching (Oklahoma State University, 2017), a Ph.D. in Adult and Higher Education Administration (University of Oklahoma, 2009), a Master’s in College Student Personnel Administration (University of Central Missouri, 1998) and a Bachelor’s in Journalism and Broadcasting (Oklahoma State University, 1996).
“Having worked at OCCC for almost 19 years, in numerous capacities across campus, I’m honored to serve the staff in Student Affairs,” said Dr. Largent. “As a first-generation college student, I realize the power of education, and knowing I can play some role in helping our students attain that power is both humbling and the source of my daily motivation.”
With more than 60 majors to choose from, and more than 40 student-led clubs and organizations, OCCC offers an affordable, accredited college education to around 17,000 students annually, and serves thousands more in non-credit classes and programs. OCCC offers associate degrees, certifications and leadership opportunities to all Oklahomans, whoever they are, whomever they love, wherever they’ve been and wherever they’re going.
