Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) has dispersed $3,051,000 in new CARES Act funds to its students in the form of financial aid. Funds were prioritized by need, with Pell Grant- and Low EFC-eligible students receiving the highest priority and distribution of funds.

“Oklahoma City Community College serves thousands of students of all ages and backgrounds from across the OKC metro area, many of whom are working adults with families of their own to support,” said Interim President Dr. Jeremy Thomas. “We’ll continue to offer every service and opportunity possible to help our students thrive, in good times and bad.”

The total amount included $2,391,000 from the latest Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) and $660,000 in original institutional CARES Act Funding. The college provided up to $750 to 4,068 students, who were able to apply the funds – in part or whole – directly to their outstanding balances via the Bursar’s office if they chose.

“We’re grateful to our legislators and other community leaders who have advocated for higher education and helped secure these funds for our students,” added Thomas. “For many, these funds may be a stopgap or a helping hand during tough times, but for some, these funds could be truly life-saving.”

With more than 60 majors to choose from, and more than 40 student-led clubs and organizations, OCCC offers an affordable, accredited college education to around 17,000 students annually, and serves thousands more in non-credit classes and programs. OCCC offers associate degrees, certifications and leadership opportunities to all Oklahomans, whoever they are, whomever they love, wherever they’ve been and wherever they’re going.
