OCCC STEMVets Program Receives New Funding From Boeing

Partnership ensures ongoing support services for veterans

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) last week announced a renewed partnership with Boeing that ensures ongoing support services for veterans, active military members and their families through 2021. Boeing’s $70,000 grant powers OCCC’s STEMVets program, which helps America’s heroes pursue degrees in STEM at OCCC and then transfer to continue their education elsewhere.

“Our veterans deserve our gratitude every single day,” said Christopher Collins, Development Director for The Foundation at Oklahoma City Community College. “Our friends and partners at Boeing have helped us ensure our veterans have not only our thanks, but the support and resources they need to continue their educations, support their families and pursue their dreams.” Collins noted that this year, during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Boeing provided flexibility for the STEMVets program at OCCC to award emergency grants to veteran students, providing critical support to ensure students were able to continue their academic progress during difficult times.

Boeing’s support of OCCC’s STEMVets program is part of a larger initiative which supports more than 400 nonprofit organizations in 47 countries, funding programs for veterans around recovery, rehabilitation and workforce transition services.

“It’s so important to make sure our local veterans still feel supported and connected to the community, especially during this pandemic. Boeing is proud to continue this partnership with the STEMVets program, helping veteran students pursue STEM education and careers,” said Tony Lounsbery, director of finance for Boeing’s Aircraft Modernization and Modification programs. “I’m a veteran, too, so it makes me proud that Boeing continues to support those who have served our country.”
Active military or veterans who wish to learn more about OCCC’s STEMVets program should visit OCCC’s office of Student Accessibility and Support at occc.edu/support or call 405.682.7520.
