South OKC Chamber Passes Resolution of Support for OCCC

Endorses and Praises New OCCC Leadership, Programming and Mantra

    (Published: 12-16-20)

OCCC

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) today received a copy of a resolution of support from the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. The resolution, passed by the Chamber’s Board of Directors, commends OCCC on its significant and sweeping changes to executive leadership, programming, culture and values over recent months. The South OKC Chamber was the driving force behind the establishment of OCCC in 1972.

“The South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce wishes to formally and publicly endorse, praise and support Oklahoma City Community College,” the resolution states. “...To celebrate its successful recalibration and reorganization, [and] to recognize its academic and enrollment achievements…”

OCCC has recently accepted an expedited retirement plan from outgoing President Jerry Steward, whose retirement is effective January 1, 2021. The college achieved gains in year-over-year enrollment after originally projecting a 20 percent decline due to COVID-19. In 2020, the college moved from 16-week semesters to 8-week terms, appointed a new Executive Team and Cabinet, abolished many outdated or workplace policies, revamped its Title IX protections, and made a significant splash around the metro area, and even the globe, with its rebranding, enrollment and social media campaigns.

“[The South OKC Chamber] offer[s] solidarity with and embracement of [OCCC’s] mantra: ‘Whoever you are and whomever you love, wherever you’ve been and wherever you’re going, you’re welcome here,’” the resolution concludes.

With more than 60 majors to choose from, and more than 40 student-led clubs and organizations, OCCC offers an affordable, accredited college education to around 17,000 students annually, and serves thousands more in non-credit classes and programs. OCCC offers associate degrees, certifications and leadership opportunities to everyone, whoever they are, whomever they love, wherever they’ve been and wherever they’re going.
