Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) has unveiled its new, fully-operational, solar-powered, level-two electric vehicle (EV) charging station in parking lot A2 on its campus in southwest Oklahoma City. The project was completed in partnership with the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

“We are so pleased to have this innovative technology on our campus to help serve our students, faculty and staff, and the public at large,” said OCCC President Jerry Steward. “We believe we should be doing our part to make our air quality better, our environment cleaner and our commutes more efficient.”

The installation includes four EV charging stations capable of charging eight vehicles at one time. The solar carport which powers the station provides energy for more than 100,000 miles of student and employee driving per year, and is one of more than 100 public charging stations in Oklahoma. With the completion of this new installation, no electric vehicle driver will be more than 50 miles from a charging station while within the state of Oklahoma.

“We are incredibly grateful to our partners at ACOG and DEQ for their generous grants and other funds, which helped make this installation a reality for our community,” said President Steward.

Oklahoma City Community College enrolls over 17,000 students annually. Thousands more are served in non-credit classes and programs. The college has more than 60 fields of study and offers associate degrees, certifications and leadership opportunities.
