The next installment of the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) 2017-2018 Performing Arts Series is here just in time to ring in the holidays. Riders in the Sky perform their “Christmas the Cowboy Way†concert Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, in the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater at 7:30 p.m.
For more than 30 years, Riders in The Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, reviving and revitalizing the genre. While remaining true to the integrity of western music, they have themselves become modern-day icons by branding the genre with their own legendary wacky humor and way-out Western wit, and all along encouraging buckaroos and buckarettes to live life “The Cowboy Way!”
For this holiday special, the Cowboys will be singing our favorite Christmas classics such as, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas†and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,†as well as some Riders holiday originals: “Corn, Water and Wood,†“Sidemeat’s Christmas Stew†and “The Prairie Dog Christmas Ball.â€
