Dr. Joshua Landis

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is hosting leading Syria expert Dr. Joshua Landis to discuss, “ISIS, Syria, and Identity in the Middle East.” This free presentation is open to the public and will be held on the OCCC campus Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bruce Owen Theater.

The Syrian Civil War, which began in spring 2011, continues to escalate producing one of the most massive movements of individuals since WWII. More than 200,000 Syrians have died in the war and given the involvement of not only the United States but also ISIS and the Russian military, this war has profound implications for U.S. foreign policy and international relations throughout the world.

Dr. Landis is the Director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He writes “Syria Comment,” a daily newsletter on Syrian politics that attracts more than 100,000 readers a month. He is also a frequent analyst on TV and radio. Most recently he has appeared on PBS “News Hour,” the “Charlie Rose Show,” Al-Jazeera, “Frontline,” NPR and BBC radio.
