Struggling to define your future career path? Not sure what life after high school looks like? Taking the ACT is an important first step in improving college and career readiness and taking control of your future. Even better, students who complete the national ACT may gain a tuition waiver with the ACT NOW Scholarship Program at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC).
The ACT NOW Scholarship is offered as an automatic merit-based tuition waiver program for 2015 high school graduating seniors. The waiver amounts are based on a student’s composite score on the national ACT and are as follows:
• 20-21 composite score: 3 hour credit waiver
• 22-23 composite score: 6 hour credit waiver
• 24-26 composite score: 9 hour credit waiver
• 27-30 composite score: 12 hour credit waiver
• 31 and above composite score: 15 credit hour waiver
“There is no minimum score required on the ACT for admission to Oklahoma City Community College,” said OCCC Recruitment and Admissions Assistant Director Christy Rogers. “However, we find that students who take the ACT often score higher than they think they will, and they almost universally do better the more times they take the exam. Students who do well on the ACT are also much more likely to be successful in college.”
This scholarship is for the first year of attendance only and is available both fall and spring semesters. To be eligible, students must be admitted to OCCC, a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., complete an application, submit ACT scores and enroll full-time for the fall 2015 semester no later than June 1.
“Taking the ACT should be part of every high school student’s plan for college,” Rogers said. “We hope more students will explore their potential, take the national exam and benefit from planning ahead and doing their best.”
