Dr. Jennifer Allen is a Nationally Certified, Board Registered Art Therapist. She practiced in rural community mental health for twelve years in Eastern New Mexico. Her clinical background includes work with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, group and family therapy sessions on an outpatient basis. She also served as the Interim Director of an Intensive Outpatient Day Treatment Program for elementary aged children with severe emotional and behavioral problems. She has taught psychology as an adjunct professor since 2004 in both traditional and online classroom formats. Dr. Allen holds a B.F.A. in Art Therapy and a B.S. in Psychology from Kansas State University, a M.S. in Art Therapy from Emporia State University, and a Ph.D. in Human Services with a specialization in Counseling Studies from Capella University. Dr. Allen’s research interests include the effectiveness of art therapy, specifically the utiliztion of mandala creation, in alleviating symptoms of PTSD in college students.
