This course is designed as an overview of microbiology as related to the health care profession. Primary concentration will be on the pathogenic microorganisms, including bacteria, virus, rickettsiae, fungi and protozoa. Emphasis will be placed on diseases caused by microorganisms, host/parasite relationships, aseptic technique, and control of nosocomial infections. Laboratory work is an integral component of this course.
