Why are the embryos of the above vertebrates so similar? They all inherit the same genes for early embryonic development. Each of these species has the same ancient plan for development. Nature takes the plan and modifies it at different stages of development to produce different adults. The similarity of early embryonic development demonstrates that all the vertebrates share a common ancestor.
