Zach Sumner, a sophomore, business major was encouraged by the friendly and professional staff at OCCC, as well as the course options available – online and in person.

Why did you choose OCCC?

I chose OCCC because I couldn’t find another school with employees who were more friendly and professional. I keep choosing OCCC because I have never been anywhere else where everyone is as dedicated to my success.

What do you like best about your classes?

I like how easy it is to make it all fit together. Last semester, I took two online classes and two eight-week courses. It was simple to accomplish it all.

What’s your favorite class?

Philosophy is my favorite class, for sure.

If you have declared a major and are in a program – what do you like best about the program?

Business is my major. There are so many opportunities to learn more about your field whether through student-led clubs or meeting and learning from staff members. The education here never stops.

What do you like best about campus life?

Everyone here is very kind, and campus pride runs pretty strong.

What campus activities are you in/or have you been in involved in the past?

I have served College Republicans as treasurer and president; I’ve served the TLC executive board as director of research and as chairman. I stay pretty busy.

How has OCCC surprised you or differed from your expectations?

I never expected college and the art of learning to be this much fun.

How to you like your instructors?

I enjoy my instructors very much. You can tell that they really work to be the best for us, the students.

What internship opportunities have you had?

I have had several job offers at OCCC, ranging from dealing with students to actually working in finance.

What are your plans following graduation?

I plan to enroll at a four year school and work toward a degree in accounting or advertising.

Would you recommend OCCC to friends and if so, why?

I absolutely would, and do recommend OCCC to friends. OCCC provides students with the opportunity to get involved in almost anything imaginable, and that is very rare.

What advice would you offer to friends who are planning to enroll at OCCC?

Stop by Student Life and get to know the wonderful people who work there. They can make your college life much easier.

What else can you share about your academic experience?

I went from doing nothing worthwhile to doing very important things, and all because I was willing to get involved. So, get involved.

What are some of your hobbies outside the classroom?

I read. I tutor. I do a lot of things.
