OCCC Student Spotlight
Emily MusickBlanchard, OK
Emily was interested in the medical field and was looking for a school with classes that would easily transfer to a four-year university. It was nice to also have encouragement from another OCCC graduate, her mom.
Why did you choose OCCC?
I choose OCCC because my mom graduated from here with a nursing degree and always told me how much she loved the campus and teaching staff.
What do you like best about your classes?
I’m finally getting to enjoy my major classes, classes more specific to my career field verses the general education courses.
What’s your favorite class?
My favorite class is Organic Chemistry – it’s so interesting.
If you have declared a major and are in program – what do you like best about the program?
I am a pre-medicine major. I love how close it works with the requirements of OU medical school. So far everything from OCCC will transfer.
What do you like best about campus life?
I was impressed by how much everyone cares about helping the students reach their goal.
What campus activities are you in/or have you been in involved in the past?
I’ve been involved in several groups, including Phi Theta Kappa, Honors Program, Civic Honors and Health Professions Club.
How has OCCC surprised you or differed from your expectations?
I was surprised at how many course options OCCC offers students.
How do you like your instructors?
I have really enjoyed my instructors, and I highly respect their willingness to help students better understand the course work.
What internship opportunities have you had?
Although I’ve not completed my internship just yet, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at a few healthcare facilities. The experience is teaching me a lot.
What are your plans following graduation?
After graduation, I plan to transfer to Oklahoma City University for a bachelor’s degree in bio-chemistry.
Would you recommend OCCC to friends and if so, why?
Yes, I’d recommend OCCC to friends because I feel it’s a great starting school. My start here will help me succeed in my future college courses and in my career.
What advice would you offer to friends who are planning to enroll at OCCC?
What else can you share about your academic experience?
Getting your education is possible as long as you set a goal, stay on track and seek help when needed.
What are some of your hobbies outside the classroom?
My family is my hobby. I have a three-year-old son who is my world. When I have free time from work and school, we have mommy/son day or family day when my boyfriend is off work too.
