Student says OCCC security’s condition needs improvement

To the Editor:

I am pissed off now!

My vehicle was stolen from Parking Lot A last week. Two other vehicles were broken into at the same time. These trucks were parked within five parking spaces from where my truck was parked.

These guys lost stereos, amps and subs. Between 8 and 11 a.m., where were all the security guards that we pay for?

I called Maj. Keith Bourque in the security office to find out what the security schedule is. He never returned my phone call.

I would also like to know, how many times does the security drive the parking lot? Is it every 10 minutes, every 15 minutes, or even once every hour?

We as students need to know that, when we come to class, our vehicle is going to be there when we get out. Now, of course, there are risks, but the security guards should be doing their job. Then fewer people would have break-ins or vehicles stolen.

I am sure that I am not the only one to notice, but our security team is a little on the bigger side. I am not saying that all the security officers are overweight, but come on.

If one of them needed to jump out of their van to chase a would be robber, could they do it? I don’t know.

I have seen them in the parking lots, driving around, mostly by the teacher’s parking spots.

I ask you, what needs to happen to get video surveillance in the parking lots and get a stricter security team?

I bet if a dean’s car was stolen, there would be a lot of changes.
