Absolute submissions due Dec. 1

The Dec. 1 deadline is fast approaching for submissions to Absolute, Oklahoma City Community College’s literary and artistic magazine.

The publication will accept submissions from anyone in the community, although historically most participants have been OCCC students, said Marybeth McCauley, faculty advisor and English professor in the Division of Arts, English and Humanities. The division has published the educational resource annually since 1972.

“The school has always been committed to producing a quality art publication for students,” McCauley said. “It’s a place for voices to be heard, for artistic talent to be encouraged and for ideas to be shared.”

Submission guidelines and past editions are available online at Although the submission form allows for four items at a time, McCauley said more works can be included on additional forms. The four basic categories are art/photography, fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

Content is judged by a peer panel of student editors.

Absolute is available online for free; content producers are not paid for their work. Printed editions are sold in the OCCC Bookstore for $10 each.

A reception will be scheduled in the spring to honor the artists and editors. Critics’ Choice awards will be presented as well.
