Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) congratulates Melissa Hermosillo and Alejandro Miranda as the first students to complete their internship within OCCC’s bilingual banking and finance certificate of mastery program. The college partnered with True Sky Credit Union to facilitate the required financial services internship.

“The community came to us with a need for bilingual professionals, particularly in banking and financial institutions,” said OCCC’s Early College Awareness Program Specialist Marina Rodriguez. “The program is an answer to that call and we are grateful for True Sky Credit Union’s partnership, expanding the program’s opportunities and giving our students the necessary experience to succeed in the industry.”

Both Melissa Hermosillo, a graduate of US Grant High School, and Alejandro Miranda, a graduate of Santa Fe South High School, entered the program in fall 2017 and began their internships with True Sky Credit Union. They are the first two students to complete their internship within the program and have both accepted paid positions with the financial institution.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has been involved,” said Hermosillo. “Both True Sky Credit Union and OCCC have supported us throughout the internship, investing in our education and careers.”

“We have valued our partnership with Oklahoma City Community College and have been impressed in the quality of students who served as interns for our credit union,” said Steve Rasmussen, CEO and president of True Sky Credit Union. “At the end of the semester, we were pleased to hire Melissa and Alejandro.”

OCCC is now taking applications for the fall 2018 cohort of the bilingual banking and finance program. Completing OCCC’s bilingual banking and finance program can lead to entry level job placement within financial institutions, meeting the demand for bilingual employees. It is designed to move bilingual students into the finance industry by earning a certificate of mastery in banking and finance.

“Our primary goal is to provide banking partners with a pool of high-quality, diverse, bilingual college students interested in banking and finance,” says OCCC Division of Business and IT Dean John Claybon.
