Oklahoma City Community College’s (OCCC) Professional Development Institute (PDI), a center of excellence for continuing education and workforce development, will offer its first ServSafe Food safety manager course starting Oct. 16, 2017, in English and Nov. 6, 2017, in Spanish. As a ServSafe Certified Instructor and Registered Proctor site, PDI adequately prepares students to take the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam.

Instructed by certified ServSafe Food safety manager Beatriz Meyer, the eight-hour, $175 course includes essential food safety practices to create a culture of food safety. “This course and certification is paramount for health department compliance for all restaurants, and not only covers food handling but food management,” Meyer said.

The course covers critical principles including personal hygiene, cross contamination, time and temperature, receiving and storage, food safety management systems, training hourly employees and more. Students receive the latest ServSafe Manager edition of the course and the national exam.

“We are excited to bring this new course offering to the community in English and Spanish. Listening to our business partners, there is a real need for this training and certification,” says PDI Director John Claybon.

The course will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16, 18, 23 and 25 in English and Nov. 6, 8, 13 and 15 in Spanish at the PDI building, 7124 S. I-35 Service Road. For more information, please contact Kirstin Krug at (405) 682-7856 or kirstin.m.krug@occc.edu, or visit www.occc.edu/pdi.
