Broadway, movie and television star Ben Vereen brings his show “Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen” to Oklahoma City Community College’s (OCCC) Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at 8 p.m. as part of the 2016-2017 Performing Arts Series.
Ben Vereen’s legendary performances transcend time and are woven into the fabric of this country’s artistic legacy. Ben’s performances onstage, screen and television continue to inspire and influence artists of all ages. Ben’s artistic quality has always been fueled by a passion to channel the arts for a better world.
His journey has taken him to the Broadway stage where he starred in “Pippin” which garnered him both the prestigious Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He has also starred in “Wicked,” “Hair,” “Fosse,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and more. On the big screen, Ben can be seen in the movies “Sweet Charity,” “Funny Lady,” “All That Jazz,” “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” and “The Zoo Gang.”
This fall, Ben stars as Dr. Scott in the made for television movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” by Twentieth Century Fox. His memorable television roles that have stood the test of time include Chicken George in “Roots” and Louis Armstrong in “Louis Armstrong – Chicago Style.” Other television credits include “How I Met Your Mother,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Hot in Cleveland,” “NCIS,” “House of Payne,” “Law and Order: Criminal Intent,” “Oz,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “The Love Boat” and many, many more.
In February 2011, Ben released his CD “Steppin’ out Live with Ben Vereen” and staged a triumphant return to Broadway with his concert “Ben Vereen on Broadway at Town Hall.” Ben was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in January 2012 and the National Museum of Dance Hall of Fame in August 2012.
The 2016-2017 Performing Arts Series continues to provide spectacular performances all season long. The Koresh Dance Company will be the first performance of 2017 Tuesday, Jan. 24. “Defending the Caveman,” the longest running solo play in Broadway history, will have three performances Feb. 10 & 11, 2017.

Oklahoma City Community College opened the doors to the 1,049-seat Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater in early 2014. It features a large atrium with three-story high windows, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment and will allow the college to host larger Broadway-style touring productions.
