OCCC Plans Fall Recreation and Fitness Programs

Basketball, volleyball, karate classes available; volunteer-coaches needed

Rec and Fit at OCCC

Basketball, volleyball and karate self-defense classes are lined up for kids this fall in the Recreation and Fitness department at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC). The college is also seeking volunteer sports coaches. Registration is underway; clinics begin this month.

Fall Youth Basketball – Ages 4 to 8
Enroll your child in the fall basketball program at OCCC and help build their confidence on the basketball court.
Registration fee includes six games and participation awards for all players. Practices will begin the week of Sept. 24, and teams are guaranteed no more than one practice per week throughout the season. This league is not open to organized teams.

Important dates and information:
• Coaches Meeting: Sept. 25, 7 p.m. at OCCC
• League Dates: Oct. 5 – Nov. 9, 2013
• League Play: Saturdays,9 a.m.-1 p.m. starting Oct 5th
• Program Fee: $45 per player; OCCC jersey included

Fall Junior High Girls Volleyball League – Grades 6th to 8th
Junior High girls, join the fall volleyball league at OCCC and improve your playing skills. Girls playing for their Junior High school teams are welcome to participate in this league. Registration fee is $55 per player includes uniform (copy of birth certificate is required).

• Coaches Meeting: Oct. 2, 7:00 p.m. OCCC
• League Dates: Sept. 28 to Nov. 2
• League Play: Saturdays, 2 to 4 p.m.
• Program Fee: $55 per player; OCCC jersey included

Intro Karate/Self Defense (Age 6 to Adult)
This four week course is designed to introduce students and adults to the basics of karate and basic self–defense.

Important dates and information:
• Program Fee: $80 includes uniform
• Course Dates: Oct. 5 to 26; Nov. 2 to 23
• Day and Time: Saturdays, 1 to 2 p.m.

Youth Sports Volunteer-Coach Certification Clinic
Certified sports clinics have been designed for inspired parents and/or community members who would like to volunteer-coach one of the OCCC youth sports programs.
Certification clinics include a one-year, level-one membership with the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS); concussion training and background screenings through Protect Youth Sports.

Basketball Clinic:
• Sept. 7, 2013
• Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Cost: $35 (enrollment limited to 10)

Volleyball Clinic:
• Sept. 14, 2013
• Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Cost: $35 (enrollment limited to 10)
