Wellness Holiday Challenge at OCCC

Is the Halloween candy still lingering about? Does the upcoming Thanksgiving feast and Christmas cookie exchange have you in a weight-gain panic? Join the OCCC Wellness Taskforce team as they kick off the Poker Run/Walk and the Holiday "Maintain Don't Gain" Challenge.

Poker Run/Walk:
• Nov. 11-15
• Each day, each participant must pick up a playing card at the OCCC Welcome Desk in the Main Building.
• Participants must then stop by the OCCC Wellness Center desk to sign in.
• Set aside a time and begin walking each day on the indoor walking trail on campus (we have walking trail maps for your convenience).
• At the end of the week, participants turn in their "hands" at the Recreation and Fitness main office. The best hand wins a prize!

Holiday "Maintain Don't Gain" Challenge:
• Nov. 18 through Jan. 13
• Join the self-directed challenge with the goal to maintain your weight over the holidays rather than gain.
• Participants can choose to weigh-in on campus or at home. The Wellness Taskforce will provide score cards for participants to track their weight, exercise, and fruit and veggie consumption on a weekly basis.
• Participants will receive weekly email reminders that provide tips and strategies for adopting or maintaining healthy behaviors, healthy recipes, stress management tools, physical activity suggestions, and encouraging messages to keep you going. Sign up for this information online at HealthyNow@occc.edu.
• Complete your final weigh-in by January 13, 2014

A healthy diet and daily exercise – together – are the ticket to an improved lifestyle. Don't wait until after the holidays, get a head start now!

Students may also participate. For more information or questions, please contact the OCCC Recreation and Fitness department at ext. 7662.
