Methylene Blue

0.2% METHYLENE BLUE STOCK SOLUTION:*

• Makes 100ml; store at room temperature indefinitely

Instructions:

• Add 0.2g of methylene blue to 100ml of distilled water
• Stir till dissolved

0.025% METHYLENE BLUE STAINING SOLUTION:

• Makes 1L; store at room temperature indefinitely

Instructions:

• Add 125ml of 0.2% methylene blue solution to 875ml of distilled water
• Stir to dissolve

Aliquot methylene blue into microcentrifuge tubes for student use.

*If you do not have a balance that will accurately weigh out 0.2 gm, then take 2.0 gm of methylene blue and dissolve in 100 mL distilled water, making this a 10X solution. Next, take the 10X methylene blue solution and put 10 mL of 10X methylene blue into 90 mL distilled water to get to final concentration of 0.2%.
