*If you have Asian food store nearby, you can purchase agar-agar in packets and it will work in this experiment and will be much cheaper than using scientific supply source - however, be sure the ingredients list agar only and nothing else.)
PREPARATION OF 2% AGAR
- Prepare 2% Agar for Immunoassay; store in refrigerator for several weeks
Makes approximately 35 plates
Instructions:
- Add
20g agar to 1L deionized water in a
2L Erlenmeyer flask
- Stir
while bringing to a boil until agar is completely dissolved
- Allow
to cool, but must be poured into plates while still warm
- Pour
about 15mL of agar solution into bottom half of Petri plate
- Let
agar solidify at room temperature
- Place plates
upside down in sleeve (about 20 per bag)
