The Library has the ability to use Interlibrary Loan, or ILL, to borrow books, and get copies of magazine, journal, and newspaper articles not owned by the OCCC Library. ILL request forms may be found at the Library Assistance Desk on the 1st floor of the Library or use the online ILL request form .
- Current OCCC students and employees may use ILL
- Current textbooks cannot be borrowed via ILL
- There is no charge to request an ILL
A limit of five ILL requests may be submitted at one time. Copyright law further restricts what the Library may request.
On average it takes up to five business days to receive an ILL book. Magazine and journal articles are often received the next day as an email attachment. To check the status of an ILL, ask at the Library Assistance Desk.
Once an ILL item is received, patrons will be notified by telephone or email. ILL items can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. The length of the lending period is determined by the lending library. The patron is responsible for returning the borrowed material to the OCCC Library on time. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a renewal. If an item is not returned, the patron will be charged for the replacement cost set by the lending library. Until the item is returned or paid for, students will be placed on academic hold, and may lose future ILL privileges.
Lending libraries may place restrictions on the loan. "For Library Use Only" and other restrictions must be honored. ILL staff reserves the right to refuse service to any patron who may jeopardize borrowing agreements by violating lending library's stipulations.
The 1978 Federal Copyright Law has placed a limit on the number of photocopies a library may request from periodicals published within the last five years. Usually this will not affect the ability to request material. In these circumstances, Library staff may be able to provide other options for acquiring the material.
