Biography

Although he spent most of his life in Pennsylvania, Professor Passek visited Oklahoma often. While growing up, he remembers visiting his grandparents in Ada. As an adult, he vacationed in Norman many times to visit family. Professor Passek is now happy to be here permanently as part of the Oklahoma City Community College Community. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a Minor in Print Media Journalism and his Master of education Degree in English from Millersville University, located near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He then cut his professional teeth in Oklahoma City by writing book and music reviews for The Daily Oklahoman, and later served as the assistant editor for a small weekly news magazine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His love of writing led Professor Passek to enter the world of educational publishing. There, he learned how to work with college professors and physicians to produce journals and textbooks for publishers like The American College of Physicians, Thompson Learning, John Wiley & Sons, and W. W. Norton & Company. Surrounded by educators, it was only natural that Professor Passek gravitated towards teaching. Instead of making textbooks, he now uses them in his classroom. Prior to joining OCCC, Professor Passek taught many business writing, composition, and technical writing courses in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area for Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania College of Design, and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. He enjoys helping students achieve their academic goals, and knows he learns just as much from his students as they do from him. In his spare time, Professor Passek likes exploring new places in the OKC area, reading comics and science fiction/fantasy books, and spending time with his family.
