Is online learning for you? Here are some basic questions to ask yourself :
Are you comfortable working at a computer?
Do you have experience surfing the Internet?
Do you like to work independently?
Do you have good reading skills?
Are you comfortable following written directions only?
Would you be comfortable e-mailing your instructor to ask for clarification or help?
Are you able to meet deadlines?
Can you dedicate at least 4-6 hours of study time per week for each online course you are taking?
If you answered "yes" to most of the questions, you will do just fine with online courses. If you hesitated on some of them, you'll probably do just fine also, but you may need to work harder and more deliberately at staying in touch with your instructor.
Start early on assignments. Time has a way of slipping by quickly.
Establish and stick to a regular study schedule.
Contact your instructor immediately if you have questions or problems.
Make contacts with other students in your class. Form study groups if possible.
During your course orientation or at any time during the semester, ask questions about resources, deadlines, expectations, etc. You must be responsible for seeking answers to your questions.
Online students are expected to be independent learners. You must
motivate yourself to study regularly and meet course deadlines.
